The Kansai-kan of the National Diet Library of Japan annually carries out research projects on library and information science. This year we conducted a survey on the theme of the Great East Japan Earthquake and libraries, and published the first-ever full-scale research report on the subject.  The 350+ page report broadly covers information related to the earthquake occurred on March 11, 2011 and libraries in Japan.

Contents

Information on damage and reconstruction of libraries, related support activities, activities for preserving earthquake records and experiences are collected and also include:

  • Pictures and maps of libraries damaged by tsunami and earthquake
  • Timeline of the disaster and movement of the central and local governments and libraries
  • Events and Statistical information
  • Articles by librarians & researchers
