PublicationSG - Legal Deposit Catalogue launched at the National Library, Singapore
The National Library Board (NLB) Singapore celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2015. To commemorate the special occasion, NLB launched its Legal Deposit Catalogue (PublicationSG) to enable the public to search and retrieve materials from the collection that was built up over the last 50 years.
PublicationSG was unveiled by Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Information and the public was also given a preview of the rich Legal Deposit collection at an exhibition that showcased interesting materials from the collection.
Legal Deposit is a statutory function of the National Library and it enables the library to collect published works in Singapore, as two copies of every Singapore publication are required for deposit with the NLB. This print and audio visual heritage collection is made up of more than a million books, serials, ephemera, visual and sound recordings, but has not been fully accessible to the public until recently. Previously, selected Legal Deposit materials relevant to researchers were made available for public access at the National Library. Now, the public can search the entire Legal Deposit collection with PublicationSG, and place a reservation for the required items to be consulted at the National Library. The addition of the rich Legal Deposit collection also establishes the National Library of Singapore as the premier institution for research on all things Singapore.
