Our section's open session at WLIC 2016 was an enormous success.  The session opened with a key note address by Marie Ostergaard, head of community engagement at Dokk1 in Aarhus, Denmark.  Marie’s engaging and inspiring presentation was followed by Madeleine Lefebvre’s excellent delivery of Craig Dyker’s (Snohetta) paper.  The third part of the session was a thought leader panel discussion on the topic “What comes after the “Third Place”?”  facilitated by Madeleine Lefebvre, Ryerson University and included contributions by Marie Ostergaard , Janette Blackburn, Shepley Bullfinch and Marion Morgan-Bindon, Goldcoast Public Libraries. The opening statements and subsequent discussion gave rise to a large number of questions and comments from the audience of c.500 delegates.  The session attracted considerable attention including a write up in American Libraries.  Finally, in a wonderful end to a great day, Dokk1 was confirmed as the Public Library of the Year 2016 at a presentation by the Public Libraries group shortly afterwards in Columbus Central Library.  We would like to thank our standing committee, section members, WLIC delegates and everyone who joined in online using #iflabuild2016 for making the open session such a success.  We have already started work on an exciting programme for 2016/17 which will include a mid-year meeting and collaborative open session at WLIC 2017.  We hope to see as many people as possible at these events.  In the interim please stay in touch here, on Twitter @ifla_lbes and via our Facebook group.
