IFLA is changing. This year it has launched a Global Vision discussion to explore with librarians around the world how a connected library field can meet the challenges of the future. IFLA is in a transition period, becoming an outward focused federation that truly reflects the voices of all libraries in all regions of the world.

It is important that IFLA Members have their say in this transformation. To ensure this happens, IFLA will undertake a comprehensive membership survey which will be distributed to associations, institutions and individuals. An overall goal is to establish a baseline of what members value in IFLA as an organisation. We want to understand member engagement with IFLA; what activities members value most; the motivation to participate in IFLA’s work; where IFLA could develop its activities further; and the identified strengths that IFLA can build upon. IFLA holds a unique, representative role at the international level. In speaking on behalf of its members, IFLA needs to understand and align with their expectations.

The Membership Survey will be launched in the 4th quarter of 2017 and fittingly recognises the occasion of IFLA’s 90th anniversary year. A report will be provided to the IFLA Governing Board and the outcomes will be presented at the IFLA WLIC in 2018.
