Climate Heritage Summit
Cultural Heritage is a Climate Action Issue. Climate Action is a Cultural Heritage Issue.
When
12 – 13 September 2018
Where
San Francisco, United States
Description
Climate change poses a serious threat to many of the things that are vital to life today - agriculture, infrastructure, weather. Cultural heritage is no exception, with buildings, and the collections they contain, at risk from rising sea levels and extreme weather.
Yet the cultural heritage sector - and libraries in particular - are far more than just potential victims. Through work to adapt and prepare, they can reduce the risks they face from disaster. And through education and awareness-raising, they can promote more sustainable living in their communities.
IFLA will be represented at the first Climate Heritage Summit, to be held on 12-13 September in San Francisco. Alongside experts from the monuments and built heritage sector, IFLA representatives will underline the difference that libraries can make.
