The General Directorate for Libraries of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is organising its XVII International Conference on University Libraries around the general theme of “Libraries in the open environment: Education, research, information and culture”. The conference will take place from 23-25 October 2019 at UNAM in Mexico City, Mexico.
The goal of the conference is to analyse, exchange ideas, share experiences, reflect on trends and opportunities in the short and medium terms about the linking and interaction between university, academic, specialised and research libraries and the entities responsible for carrying out the substantive actions of the institutions to which all they belong in an open and inclusive context. The programme consists of three keynote lectures and six round tables.

Round table themes:
- Open access: The concept and its scope
- Research in the context of open science
- Open education and its interaction with library services
- The cultural mission of the library in an open environment
- Information access, data protection and copyright
- The open library and the open librarians: Actions, challenges and commitments
Prominent specialists and experts of national and international standing from Latin America, United States, Canada, Europe and Mexico will analyse and share their experiences and points of view, and will propose actions and suggestions for the library field.
Approximately 200 academic librarians and information specialists from all over Mexico and abroad will attend.
IFLA Secretary General Gerald Leitner will participate as a Keynote Speaker at the event.
