The 40th meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) takes place on 16-20 November 2020 in virtual format.

As the first meeting of the Committee in over a year, it is an opportunity both to catch up on the work that has taken place over the past few years at WIPO, and to relfect on the lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic.

IFLA will engage at the meeting in order to make the case for concrete work in support of libraries and their users. The pandemic has underlined the need for laws that allow libraries to fulfil their missions online as well as off.

WIPO has a unique role to play in providing leadership for govenrments, giving them the certainty that legislating in support of libraries and their users is both necessary and possible.
